Why Your Support Matters

New Beginnings serves as more than a residential facility. We're a gathering place and lifeline for men ready for transformation. With over 3,000 visits to our facility annually for community recovery meetings, we're at the heart of Hickory's recovery ecosystem.

Volunteers and supporters like you:

  • Provide healthy, supportive relationships that reinforce recovery

  • Break isolation by connecting residents with the broader community

  • Model successful living and share real-world wisdom

  • Remove barriers that prevent men from accessing the help they need

  • Strengthen the foundation that makes lasting recovery possible

  • Demonstrate that the community believes in second chances

Your involvement sends a powerful message: transformation is possible, and our community stands ready to support men building new foundations for their lives.

Ways to Partner With New Beginnings

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Host a Community Dinner

Share a home-cooked meal and meaningful conversation with our residents. Prepare food at home and bring it in, or use our commercial kitchen to cook and serve alongside the men in our program. These shared meals create community connections that reinforce recovery.

All-Hands Work Day

Organize your church, business, or community group for a hands-on service project. Projects may include cleaning, painting, light construction, maintenance, or landscaping. Your group's efforts directly improve the environment where men are rebuilding their lives.

Lead an Interactive Skills Workshop

Share your expertise through hands-on learning experiences. Teach car maintenance, cooking techniques, home repair skills, art projects, or other practical abilities that help residents develop independence and confidence.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Become a 12-Step Sponsor

If you have several years of sobriety and deep familiarity with the 12-step process, consider sponsoring one of our residents. Sponsors provide essential guidance, accountability, and lived experience that make recovery real and achievable. Your journey can light the path for someone just beginning theirs.

Teach Fit for Service Life Skills Classes

Our signature programming includes rotating classes in anger management, emotional sobriety, financial literacy, servant leadership, healthy boundaries, and personal development. If you're qualified to teach any of these subjects or can lead Bible studies or personal growth sessions, your knowledge directly equips residents for successful community reintegration.

Mentor Through Lived Experience

Many residents are developing career skills or rebuilding relationships with family. Share your professional journey, work-life balance strategies, recreational interests, or other life experiences that provide hope and practical guidance. Your story of navigating life's challenges can inspire men working to rebuild theirs.

Provide Transportation Support

Transportation remains one of the biggest barriers for men in recovery. If you can spare 2-3 hours or more per week, drive our van to transport residents to work, medical appointments, probation meetings, and other critical appointments. Morning and afternoon shifts available. Your time behind the wheel removes obstacles that could otherwise derail recovery progress.

Support Through Financial Partnership

Can't volunteer right now but still want to make an impact? Financial contributions help us expand capacity, improve programming, and remove barriers for men ready for transformation. Your donation directly supports the structured environment, professional staff, and comprehensive resources that make lasting recovery possible.

Every contribution helps us serve more men and strengthen Hickory's recovery community.

Take the Next Step

Whether you have time, skills, or financial resources to share, we'd love to partner with you in this vital community work. Together, we're building a place where genuine transformation happens—where men who have lost everything can truly begin again.
