Our Impact

Where Transformation Happens

Every man who arrives at New Beginnings Hickory carries a story of struggle—lost jobs, broken families, legal troubles, and the devastating cycle of addiction. Many have tried recovery before. Many have lost hope that lasting change is even possible. But here, something different happens.

Transformation at New Beginnings isn't measured in days or weeks of sobriety. It's measured in reconstructed lives. Men who arrive with nothing leave with meaningful employment, restored family relationships, financial stability, and the life skills to maintain their independence. Men who felt hopeless discover purpose. Men who were isolated find community. Men who had lost everything rebuild from a solid foundation.

Our comprehensive, relationship-centered approach creates the conditions where genuine change takes root. Through extended residential support, immediate community integration, structured progression toward independence, and holistic life skills development, we address not just addiction but the whole person.

The results speak for themselves: men stay an average of six months to two years—not because they have to, but because they're experiencing real transformation. Graduates return to complete advanced programming even after moving out independently. Alumni join our staff, becoming mentors to the next generation of residents.

These aren't just statistics. Men arrive desperate and leave equipped. The impact of New Beginnings Hickory is lives rebuilt, families restored, and futures reclaimed—stories like Eddie's.

Eddie's Story:

From Desperation to Hope

"Take me out of this pit, help me and I will live for You"

Eddie's journey to New Beginnings began in the darkest of places—suicide attempts, homelessness, addiction, incarceration, and crushing debt had left him desperate and hopeless. Yet today, he stands as a testament to the transformation that happens when men ready for change find the structure, community, and support they need to rebuild their lives.

Sam's Story:

From Chaos to Connection

"If someone like me can recover, anyone can. No matter how desperate the case is, recovery is possible."

Sam’s path to New Beginnings was paved with decades of generational addiction, early incarceration, and the devastating loss of those he loved most—a life he described as "committing suicide on a daily basis." After years of cycling through the justice system and missing the milestones of his children’s lives, he reached a breaking point where survival required a total transformation. Today, Sam is no longer a man defined by his past, but a pillar of the Hickory recovery community, a devoted father, and a mentor who proves that with the right community and a commitment to service, a life of purpose is always within reach.

Chris's Story:

Breaking the Cycle

"It’s not too late, it's never too late."

Chris’s journey to New Beginnings grew out of a childhood defined by neglect and a total lack of guidance: a cycle of trauma that eventually led him into a decade of addiction, incarceration, and the heartbreaking loss of his children to the foster system. It was only when he reached a point of total emotional exhaustion that he traded his old life for a newfound "willingness and determination" to change for himself. Today, Chris has transformed from a man in and out of jails to a respected role model and mentor, working tirelessly to bridge the gap back to his children while serving as a beacon of hope for others navigating the path to sobriety.

Hook's Story:

A New Legacy Defined

"I’ve served plenty of powers in my life and they’ve let me down but the power I found in the rooms of recovery has never let me down and I hope everyone has a chance to experience it"

Hooks’s path to New Beginnings started in the heart of poverty and gang activity, where survival meant navigating a world of foster care, trauma, and a "family curse" of addiction. For decades, he moved through a cycle of overdoses and incarceration, living a life he felt he was never supposed to escape. However, driven by a deep desire to be the father he never had, Hooks traded the chaos for a fresh start and a commitment to spiritual growth. Today, he has transformed from a quiet, introspective newcomer into a powerhouse of the recovery community—a manager, a college student, and a devoted father who is finally building the legacy of peace and presence his family deserves.

McKay's Story:

From Isolation to Purpose

"You can’t think your way into better living, you have to live your way into better thinking."

McKay’s journey to New Beginnings was a quiet struggle that began long before he touched a substance—rooted in a lifelong battle with anxiety and a search for self-worth. Despite a supportive upbringing, he found himself trapped in a cycle of dependency that led to several near-fatal overdoses and the heartbreaking alienation of his family. The turning point came when he finally surrendered his resentment and embraced the structure of a spiritual community. Today, McKay has traded his "daily escape" for a life of deep connection; he is a dedicated student pursuing a degree in Social Work, a restored son, and a man whose peace is found in serving the very community that helped save him.
