Beyond Sobriety: Life Skills for Lasting Success
Our signature Fit for Service program equips men with essential life skills through six months of intensive classes, preparing them for successful long-term recovery and community leadership.
More Than Getting Sober
Stopping substance use is just the beginning. True recovery means building the life skills, emotional tools, and personal leadership abilities that create lasting change. Fit for Service addresses the whole person, not just addiction.
Six Months, Six Life-Changing Areas
Our rotating curriculum covers one intensive area each month:
-
Anger Management - Learn healthy ways to process and express emotions, develop conflict resolution skills, and build better relationships.
-
Emotional Sobriety - Go beyond physical sobriety to address the emotional patterns and thinking that fuel relapse and relationship problems.
-
Financial Literacy - Master budgeting, banking, credit repair, and money management skills essential for independent living.
-
Servant Leadership - Develop leadership abilities through service to others, building confidence and purpose in your recovery journey.
-
Boundaries/Healthy Relationships - Learn to set healthy limits in relationships, work, and personal life while maintaining accountability and connection.
-
Personal Development - Build self-awareness, goal-setting skills, and the personal vision that drives long-term success.
Who Can Participate
Fit for Service is available to residents who have completed at least 60 days in our program and demonstrated commitment to their recovery process. Both Entry Level and Three-Quarter House residents can participate.
Program Benefits
-
Entry Level participants may maintain a private room or receive a reduced program fee during the program—a significant upgrade that recognizes your investment in continued growth.
-
Three-Quarter House participants receive reduced program fees, lowering your weekly cost from $850 to $800 while participating.
-
All participants gain skills that extend far beyond your time at New Beginnings, creating tools for lifelong success in relationships, work, and community involvement.
Community Recognition
Fit for Service has gained attention throughout the Hickory area, with local media covering our innovative approach to recovery programming. Grant funders consistently support this comprehensive model because they see the results in participants' lives.
So Valuable, Alumni Return
The most powerful testament to Fit for Service comes from our own alumni. Men who moved into independent housing have returned for four months just to complete the program, showing the lasting value they place on these life skills.
Some graduates have even joined our staff, bringing their Fit for Service experience full circle to mentor current participants.
Your Investment in Your Future
Fit for Service represents an optional investment in your long-term success. While residential programming addresses immediate stability and sobriety, Fit for Service builds the advanced skills that create thriving, purposeful lives.
The program runs continuously, so you can begin whenever you meet the 60-day requirement. Classes meet regularly and require consistent attendance, but the skills you'll gain become permanent tools for navigating life's challenges.
